Oxyresveratrol on Acne vulgaris

Acne (Acne vulgaris) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease caused as excessive sebum secretion, follicular hyperkeratinization, Cutibacterium acnes (formerly Propionibacterium) proliferation, and inflammatory reactions.

Medications currently used to treat acne, include topical retinoids (tretinoin, adapalene, tazarotene, trifarotene), benzoyl peroxide, hormonal agents, topical antibiotics (clindamycin, erythromycin, minocycline), and oral antibiotics

Oxyresveratrol is an excellent bactericide.

  • Oxyresveratrol demonstrated strong antibacterial activity with inhibition zones of 16.37–31.90 mm and minimum inhibitory concentrations ranging from 0.01–0.12 mg/ml, exhibiting bactericidal effects within 24 hours.

Significant growth inhibitory effects were observed against the tested bacteria within 24 hours at all extract concentrations. Bactericidal activity increased with an increase in extract concentration and exposure duration.

  • The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of pure oxyresveratrol against Propionibacterium acnes (also known as Cutibacterium acnes) ranges from 0.01 to 0.12 \ mg/mL.

These findings suggest that purified oxyresveratrol is a natural alternative to conventional antimicrobial and antiinflamatory agents in topical application for acne and related skin disorders.
